For years we’ve been lead without questioning, been careless without consequences, and lived without feeling. Each morning we awake, take our medication, and live our perfect lives. You’re happy aren’t you, dear Alice? You enjoy the endless parties, the bright lights, and the lessons you learn in school, with teachers smiling brightly. It’s not until you wake up one morning, and neglect to take your pills that you notice the mindless conversations, the grotesque secrets hidden in the shadows of the light, the plastic laced in the overwhelming happiness everyone seems to posses. “When the Keeps came to power, all struggles ceased. We were saved, saved from ourselves.” This is the beginning of every lesson, the beginning of our story, and perhaps, the beginning of our end. For they neglect to tell us all the things stolen from us, the things slowly forgotten over the centuries. Our lives are no longer our own. Don’t let them make you forget Alice. Don’t forget the pain. It’s suppose to hurt. You’re suppose to feel. This is the only way to make you understand. Don’t let them take everything,
This World We Live In
Overnight the world was changed, fixed. With and unemployment rate of under 0%, and crime virtually destroyed, the keepers have seemingly saved the world. With all the power over the lives of billions, everyone trusted in the Keepers and as far as they’re concerned they’ve never done them wrong. It’s been almost 25 years since they’ve risen to power, and still the world lives in harmony. They’ve introduced the world to medicine we could have never dreamed of, curing cancer, spray on nanites that stitch skin back together in seconds before our eyes. Surgeries that save lives and take place in under an hour. They’ve given us technology that we only wrote about in Sci-Fi novels, making it possible for us to attain anything we want by merely snapping our fingers. Yet excess is no longer a problem, we do not want everything, because we know we do not need it. But our lives- our minds -are not our own. The pills we take each morning without question alter our brain chemistry, causing us to be submissive, peaceful, quiet, well mannered. Sounds fine, perfect even. A world where everyone is friendly, and no one ever dies of anything other then old age. What we were not told was what the drugs took from us. In order to ensure we were not a threat to the overall balance of things that now were, they had to remove the irrational parts of the human psyche. They stripped all humans of their emotions, letting them live their lives in a carefree “perfect” haze, without ever feeling true joy, sorrow, love.
The Town We Reside In
Mica is a small town in the middle of nowhere. Because of its size it is often overlooked, leaving it easily susceptible to cracks in The Keepers flawless plans. Though things roll smoothly thanks to the Head Keeper, things have slowly began to go down hill. It started when one girl forgot to take her meds, leaving her with a splitting headache and giving everything around her a sharp new contrast. At first it was easy to act normally, just pushing off the headache as a hangover and ignoring how her friends normally fun attitudes came across as ditzy, and even annoying. It wasn’t long before she got into trouble, and it started a chain reaction. One by one people began “forgetting” to take their medication in the morning. And though the majority of the town still takes drug 1H400D32, others are experiencing the inbalance of feelings for the first time, all while trying to stay under the radar of the keepers. When they are caught, most feign innocent, claiming to have forgotten. They are for the most part believed, but sometimes, the main keeper makes a judgement call. And thats when they wish they’d been satisfied to live the perfect lives they’d had before.
This drug was manufactured long before the appearance of The Keepers into modern society.
